Michigan Corps is organizing the state's premier event for people engaged in the social entrepreneurship movement which will take place June 20th at the Max M. Fisher Music Center in Detroit, MI. The showcase is the culminating event for the Michigan Social Entrepreneurship Challenge, the nation's first statewide business plan competition for emerging social enterprises.
The Social Entrepreneurship Showcase will convene a wide variety of individuals and organizations using entrepreneurial approaches to solve our state's most pressing social challenges. The theme for this year's showcase is "stepping into the mind of an impact investor". We will begin exploring this topic with a panel discussion with some of last year's prize winners from the Challenge who went on to participate in our impact investment fellowship. These change-makers will share their experiences preparing to pitch their ideas, meeting investors and working with them to secure investment. We will then give the state's leading impact investors themselves an opportunity to speak about the state of funding for social change. This will give everyone in attendance the chance to hear what impact investors prioritize, and why and how they make investments.
A highlight of the Showcase will include presentations from the six prize winners of this year's competition, who will also pitch their ideas for a chance at a $1,000 People's Choice award. The program will conclude with dinner and an awards ceremony, followed by a rooftop after-party at the Majestic Cafe.
The Showcase promises to bring together existing and aspiring social entrepreneurs, as well as individuals from the philanthropic, academic, nonprofit and corporate sectors. This will be a unique opportunity to meet and learn from innovators working to better the future of our state! For those interested, there will be two free workshops before the showcase led by experts on the fundamentals of social entrepreneurship from 8:30 - 11:30 am at the University of Michigan Detroit Center.
